പാരിസ്ഥിതിക നിയമലംഘനം
ഒരു ക്രിക്കറ്റ് സ്റ്റേഡിയത്തിനായി ഉണ്ടാക്കിയ പാരിസ്ഥിതിക നിയമലംഘനം റിപ്പോര്ട്ടു ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നതു നോക്കൂ.
The Coastal Regulation Zone Management Authority (CRZMA) will slap a fine on theKerala Cricket Association (KCA) for violating the Environment Protection Act at the site of the proposed stadium at Edakochi.
It is learnt that the authority is waiting for a reply to the notice given to the KCA, for taking a final action in this regard. There were allegations that the KCA had cut down the mangrove vegetation on the proposed land as part of the preparatory works. The CRZMA had issued a notice seeking an explanation from the KCA in September, 2009.
However, as the explanation was not satisfactory, the CRZMA issued another notice to the KCA seeking a reply by the third week of May. The CRZMA authorities said that the land came under CRZ1 (ecologically fragile land).
The Centre and State should not give the green signal for the project at a time when factors like global warming, depletion of fisheries’ resources and food security were becoming severe.
Several hectares would have to be cleared for setting up facilities like roads, buildings, bridge and parking space near the proposed site of the stadium. The project will eventually result in the gross violation of Coastal Regulation Zone guidelines.

“After conducting studies, we found that the land came under CRZ1 category. We have given notice to the KCA seeking an explanation,” CTS Nair, chairman, CRZMA said. However, he refused to reveal whether the authority had decided to slap a fine on the KCA.the stadium could be constructed only by violating at least five environmental rules, including the Coastal Regulation Zone guidelines, Kerala Paddy Fields and Wetland Conservation Act, Biodiversity Act, Land Reforms Act and Forest Act.
